Now amnesty seekers have one more month to rectify their residency status to stay in the country or leave it without facing fines
Abu Dhabi: The amnesty period has officially been extended for one more month in the country, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship has announced on Tuesday.
The current three-month long amnesty period which started from August 1, ends on Wednesday, October 31.
A month’s extension until December 1, will provide more time to the amnesty seekers to regularise their residency status to stay in the country or leave the country without facing fines or getting entry ban.
There are nine centres for amnesty seekers across the UAE where they can regularise their residency status.
During the extended period, they can also apply for the self-sponsorship for six months to look for a job or a sponsorship from other employers.
Earlier, the authority also clarified that those who will be leaving the country on exit-passes from the residency can legally return to the country and there will be no ban on them. Even those who fled from their sponsors can leave the UAE without getting a ban seal.
But those illegal residents who entered the UAE through unauthorised ports or means can only re-enter the country legally after the passage of two years.
The initiative aims to make the “Emirates free from violators”. So illegal residents can avail the facility to rectify their status legally during the amnesty period or leave the country with paying fines.
Location of centres
In Abu Dhabi, the registration centre is located at immigration office in Shahama, Al Ain and Al Gharbia. In Dubai the registration centre will be in Al Aweer while in other emirates, the registration centers will be at the main immigration offices.
Reception centres are also set up in Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain.
